I've been a regular listener of NPR for a number of years now. However, I find it both disheartening and very disappointing to hear NPRs "parroted" and very biased news reporting concerning "gun control' issues facing the nation. Specifically, I hear NPR news journalists and guest ONLY... See Morefocusing on "universal background checks" and repeatedly asking, "Why is this so difficult to get passed?" Well, on the face of it, it sounds like a perfectly logical question. I even support background checks that would keep guns out of hands of those who would fail a background check. However, one NEVER HEARS ANYTHING about how our US Congress (both the House and Senate) CONSISTENTLY add in so much "pork" (in the form of additional restrictions, classifications or qualifications, etc.) to the point that the original legislation is "UNRECOGNIZEABLE" or its original intent is so compromised to make it a "non-starter" out of the gate. Congress and those intent on ever-increasing restrictions on gun ownership (flying squarely in the face of violating the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution) ALWAYS add on so much other stuff...so as to make the legislation so restrictive and cumbersome...that, of course, no law-abiding gun owner citizen would ever support it (including the NRA). Why isn't this openly discussed and debated? Liberal Democrats or ANYONE intent on changing our current gun control laws better take a close look at what our US Congress has a PENCHANT for screwing up CONSISTENTLY.... If the foregoing is not seriously taken into consideration, you can forget about any thoughtful or meaningful legislative measures to further limit gun ownership. Just my opinion.
