I visited File.org to download the Free File Viewer so that I could read all file formats, but I read around on a few review sites like this one before I decided it was safe. After thinking about it, I started the download onto my computer. But almost immediately I... See Morecanceled out of the download, because I suddenly felt like there was something wrong with the site. The download nonetheless placed a shortcut on my desktop and a file in my temporary files folder, which I noticed had a different name than the actual site and file viewer. Since my security system didn't detect anything, I didn't feel too worried about it. Today I turned my laptop back on and opened the bing page. Admiring the wallpaper, I downloaded the picture and visited the temporary files folder to cut it into my pictures folder, and when I did that I noticed the new shortcut again. A split second after I saw it a window popped up from my Norton Security System, telling me that they detected a trojan threat from freefileviewer.com, which is the place that file.org sends you to download the file viewer. The file was called icreinstall_freefileviewerdmsetup.exe. Luckily the threat was removed, but if I never visited file.org I wouldn't have had the trojan horse in the first place. Now I don't know if file.org placed the trojan there on purpose (I suspect not), but from my experience the site may be corrupted, and I strongly advise you to use caution when you visit it. I didn't even fully download the program, and something made its way through anyway.
