This site used to be pretty good. BUT: Keeps fiddling with its software and is too cheap to buy enough bandwidth. So: Expect disconnection from time to time when "too many" people watch. Expect poor sound/video sync. Expect poor quality -- jerky, gap-filled, even slo-motion -- video. ... See MoreA great idea operated by techno-illiterates, or something. And this is with what they call PREMIUM service.

When Dramafever works, it provides generally acceptable evening's entertainment. Sure, there are times when the sync between dialogue and video is off. Sure, data is over-compressed to stream effectively. But — entertaining.

The >>REAL<< problem arises from what appears to be technical incompetence or poor management or a... See Morecombination of these. There are two indicators: Dramafever's servers (wherever they may be) are often inadequate to customer demand; the result is one of several different error messages, most often a 503-type message; sometimes things just stop. Dramafever rolls out software upgrades that are, taken altogether, just minor tweaks to already working and trouble-free systems; the result is one or another failure, often resulting in sudden loss of service.

A good customer experience requires sufficient capacity to handle usage surges. The same redundancy allows for buggy-software rollouts to be corrected by simply switching back to the old production version. This no-down-time approach is well established, going back to the very advent of advanced NAS systems such as those of Auspex. Dramafever management or tech staff seem not to have implemented that kind of fail-safe redundancy.

Dramafever is not a free service. Either you pay by watching interminable ads for women's contraceptive products and other goodies of that ilk, or you pay a fee for "premium" service.

I pay the fee for premium service. I am therefore put out when for reasons unclear, my premium login is cut off and I get the can't-load-hulu-ads message.

In short, a great idea crippled by crummy management and poor tech capability..
